Summer Allergies

Summer Allergies? Browns have got you covered!

Whether your pets suffer with the sneezes, itchy skin, or fur loss during the summer months, at Browns Natural Pet Store we think we can help! Here are our top tips and products to keep your pets hay fever free…

The Ultimate Anti-Itch Pack…

If your dog or cat is driving you round the bend with scratching, this is the answer for you! Dorwest Garlic and Fenugreek and Green Releaf work in synergy with each other, so you will find better results when using both products together. Garlic is a potent immune enhancer and has anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine properties, meaning it targets the issue directly and naturally builds the dogs resistance to these allergens- (try garlic tablets for yourself if you struggle with hayfever too!) Green Releaf is formulated with natural chlorophyll rich greens, to aid anti-bacterial, anti-histamine, and pain relief properties.

The Homeopathic One…

Sulphur is best known for skin conditions, especially those linked with allergies and aggravating skin issues. Given in drops either on food or straight to the mouth, this will help your dog or cat with nibbling, rubbing, fur loss, and sores. Sulphur is a great staple to have in your first aid kit as it can also help treat digestive issues and eczema.

To Soothe The Itch…

These two products can be used to stop itching on contact and heal any sores or hot spots caused by allergies. They are both plant-based, using ingredients like hemp oil, neem oil, peppermint, and aloe vera, all of which are known for their soothing characteristics. Due to the presence of essential oils, these products are no suitable for cats- try the Dorwest Comfrey & Calendula Balm instead.

Browns Top Tips…

Wash your pet’s paws or use cleaning wipes to literally remove the allergens on contact. Make sure to dry them thoroughly afterwards and apply a balm or cream to avoid further dryness. Check out the Dexas MudBusters for easy paw cleaning after walks.

Diet, diet, diet!

At Browns Natural Pet Store, we love talking about food. Never underestimate the power of natural feeding when it comes to skin and itching. You may be feeding something that is aggravating your dog or cat’s digestive system and itching or scratching can be a clue that this is the case. Not only that, but when the diet suits your pet their body works so much more efficiently, and this in turn means they can more easily resist allergies and irritations.

Use nature to fight nature! Use plant-based products, feed lots of leafy greens, and try to avoid harsh chemicals and medications where possible. Adding coconut, evening primrose, salmon oil, or even nettle tea to your dog’s diet can make all the difference (and if you’ve never tried nettle for your own skin issues, trust us it when we say it’s a life saver!)
