THE HARNESS THAT KEEPS UP WITH THE HEAT

Summer adventures with a dog require kit that does more than one thing, and the Ruffwear Swamp Cooler Harness in Biolumin Blue does two well: it keeps dogs cool and it keeps them securely attached. The three-layer evaporative cooling system disperses body surface heat through moisture evaporation while the harness itself provides a trail-ready, adjustable fit with six points of adjustment, a padded lift handle for obstacle assistance, and dual leash attachment points to cover different activities. Soak it in water before you head out, and it handles the rest.

Why it's a great choice

  • Three-layer evaporative cooling system: An outer wicking layer, an absorbent water-storing middle layer, and a mesh inner layer work together to continuously disperse heat through evaporation for the duration of a soak cycle.

  • Six adjustment points for a custom, secure fit: Six individual points of adjustment allow the harness to be fitted precisely to a wide range of body shapes, preventing movement, rubbing, or pressure concentration during active use.

  • Padded lift handle for confident assistance: The padded rear handle provides a reliable, comfortable grip for lifting or steadying a dog over obstacles, maintaining a natural lifting position and balanced load for both dog and owner.

  • Dual leash attachment for training versatility: Front and back attachment rings support a range of lead styles and training approaches, making the harness adaptable to different walking situations without requiring additional equipment.

Key benefits for your Dog

  • Combines thermal management with trail-ready control: A cooling vest and a performance harness in one means one piece of kit manages both warm-weather comfort and secure, adjustable lead attachment without a separate layer of equipment.

  • Prevents heat-related discomfort during summer exercise: Active evaporative cooling helps maintain comfortable body temperature during hiking, running, and extended outdoor sessions in warm conditions, allowing dogs to stay active longer.

  • Secure fit reduces movement during exercise: The six-point adjustment system holds the harness in position during even energetic activities, preventing rubbing, chafing, and the kind of rotation that makes a poorly fitted harness uncomfortable.

  • Front and rear attachment for different lead situations: Dual attachment rings support both training-focused front-clip use and standard rear-clip walking, giving owners flexibility without needing to swap harnesses between activities.

A trail-tough cooling harness in vibrant Biolumin Blue, combining three-layer evaporative cooling with a precise, adjustable fit for active dogs during warm-weather adventures.

What you'll need:
A soft tape measure
A calm dog (treats help!)
A friend to assist (optional, but handy!)

You will need to measure your dog's chest girth.

Chest Girth (Widest Part of Rib Cage):

Find the widest part of your dog’s ribcage—usually just behind the front legs. Wrap the tape measure around this area to get the chest girth.

Tip: Keep the tape snug but not tight. You should be able to slip one or two fingers between the tape and your dog’s body.

Measuring Tips for Best Results:
Keep your dog calm and standing upright. Ask a friend to help and use treats or toys to keep them relaxed.
For fluffy dogs, part or gently press down the fur to get an accurate measurement close to the body.
Measure more than once to make sure your numbers are consistent.

Please measure your dog carefully against the size guide before ordering. Not sure which size to choose? Message us on live chat and we'll help you pick. Returns due to sizing issues are at the customer's own cost.
