Our story in Goring begins in 1994, when Rob took a Saturday job at what was then Shoreline Pet Supplies. He stacked shelves, carried bags for customers, and listened. He noticed that what mattered most was trust. People came back because they felt cared for and genuinely supported.

Over the years Rob worked his way up to managing the store and learned something that shaped everything we do today. A pet shop is not really about products. It is about helping people make good choices for the animals they love.

At 21, Rob moved on to new opportunities. But the connection to the shop, the customers, and the community never faded. In 2008, we returned and purchased the business with a clear purpose. We wanted to build a place rooted in trust, where pet owners could explore a more natural, thoughtful way of feeding and caring for their pets.

In 2009, Gracie arrived. Our shop dog, our muse, and the quiet reminder of why this matters. For 11 years she welcomed customers, comforted nervous dogs, and became part of countless family memories.

As we grew, our focus stayed the same. Earn trust. Deliver a genuine, personal customer experience. Look after our team so they can look after our customers. And build something that will still feel proud, relevant, and loved for generations.

In 2018, we rebranded under our family name and opened our second store in Ferring. It marked the moment Brown’s began to feel less like a small shop and more like a legacy in the making. A brand with a responsibility to do things properly, with care at the centre.

OUR FERRING FLAGSHIP

A SPACE DESIGNED FOR PEOPLE, PETS, AND FUTURE GROWTH

Opening our flagship store in Ferring in 2018 was a milestone for us. We wanted to create somewhere that felt welcoming and calm, where the customer experience always came first. Somewhere where advice was honest, conversations were real, and every visit felt personal.

We also wanted Brown’s to be a place people were proud to work. A workplace rooted in fairness, growth, opportunity, and kindness. Because when our team feels supported, our customers feel it too.

Working with local designers and builders, we shaped the store with intention. Warm, beautiful, and practical. Home to our first pet spa. A space that brings the community together and shows what modern, thoughtful pet retail can look like.

Recognition followed and we were deeply proud. Awards for training, development, and national retail excellence confirmed that we were building something meaningful. But more important than awards was this simple truth. People trusted us. They recommended us. They chose us again and again.

Today, our Goring and Ferring stores stand side by side as part of a bigger journey. Not just a business. A legacy brand built on trust, exceptional experiences, and a promise to care for our customers, our team, and their pets with integrity every single day.
