THE SALMON BOWL FOR DOGS WITH A NOSE FOR QUALITY

Salmon is one of the most complete fish proteins available to dogs, delivering omega-3 fatty acids, a high amino acid concentration, and a flavour that few dogs resist, and the version in this recipe starts at 24% dried ground salmon rather than the lower inclusions that often headline a salmon food without delivering the nutrition to match. Wilsons Premium Cold Pressed Salmon builds on dried ground salmon at 24%, dried ground sea fish at 6%, salmon hydrolysate at 4%, and salmon oil at 2.4%, cold pressed alongside spirulina, seaweed, kale, and a full prebiotic and postbiotic stack to produce a grain-free, chicken-free food with 26% crude protein. The result is a fish-forward recipe that earns that description across the ingredient list rather than just on the packaging.

Why it's a great choice

  • Salmon at three separate inclusion levels:Dried ground salmon at 24%, salmon hydrolysate at 4%, and salmon oil at 2.4% represent three separate salmon-derived ingredients within the recipe, delivering meaningful levels of omega-3, protein, and palatability that a lower-inclusion salmon formula cannot match.

  • Grain free and chicken free:With no grain and no chicken in the recipe, this is appropriate for dogs sensitive to those ingredients and for owners looking for a clean fish-based food with sweet potato, peas, and tapioca as the carbohydrate sources.

  • Spirulina and seaweed additions:Spirulina at 0.5% and seaweed at 1% contribute additional omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, trace minerals, antioxidants, and plant-based phytonutrients that enhance the nutritional density of an already fish-forward recipe.

  • Postbiotic and prebiotic for digestion:Postbiotic yeast at 0.4%, MOS at 500mg/kg, chicory, and inulin provide gut microbiome support that is particularly useful when transitioning a dog from a meat-based to a fish-based daily diet.

Key benefits for your Dog

  • 26% crude protein for muscle maintenance:At 26% crude protein sourced predominantly from salmon and sea fish, this recipe delivers the daily amino acid intake for lean muscle maintenance and recovery, with 14% crude fat providing the energy density that keeps active dogs performing well.

  • Omega-3 from multiple fish sources: Salmon, salmon hydrolysate, salmon oil, spirulina, and seaweed collectively deliver a significant omega-3 fatty acid contribution that supports skin barrier health, coat quality, and anti-inflammatory processes throughout the body.

  • Joint support from glucosamine and chondroitin:Glucosamine at 400mg/kg and chondroitin sulphate at 300mg/kg are included daily within the recipe, supporting cartilage health and joint mobility in adult dogs across all activity levels and sizes.

  • Antioxidant botanicals for daily wellbeing:Cranberry, dandelion root, marigold yellow, kale, ginger, turmeric, and thyme provide antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that complement the omega-rich base of this recipe, supporting immune health alongside the fish protein core.

How to Transition to Cold Pressed

Switching your dog’s diet gradually helps prevent digestive upset. Follow this 7-day plan:

Days 1–3:
Introduce cold pressed as a treat, gradually increasing the amount (no more than 25% of their daily intake). If your dog is on a strict diet, slightly reduce their old food to balance calories.

Days 4–6:
Replace their breakfast with cold pressed (half their daily portion), while still feeding their old food for dinner.

Day 7-9:
Feed 75% of daily intake as cold pressed, make up the rest with their old food.

Day 9+:
Fully transition to 100% cold pressed.

For dogs with sensitive stomachs, extend each phase by 2–3 days for a gentler adjustment.
