VENISON AND TROUT, NOVEL PROTEINS

Not every dog needs a conventional protein, and for those who thrive on novel meat sources or who are working through a protein rotation, venison and trout together bring a combination that is genuinely unusual in the cold pressed category. Wilsons Premium Cold Pressed Venison & Trout combines dried ground venison at 17% and dried ground trout at 17% with salmon hydrolysate at 5%, salmon oil at 2%, and green-lipped mussels at 0.25g/kg, cold pressed to retain the nutrition that baking destroys. At 3,680 kcal/kg with 25% crude protein, 14% crude fat, and grain and chicken free, it is a premium dual-protein recipe built for dogs with a palate and a physiology worth taking seriously.

Why it's a great choice

  • Dual novel proteins at 17% each:Dried ground venison and dried ground trout appear in equal measure at 17% each, providing a balanced dual-protein base that is unusual in both flavour and amino acid profile, suitable for dogs rotating away from conventional chicken, beef, or lamb recipes.

  • Grain free and chicken free:Completely free from grain and chicken, this recipe is appropriate for dogs managing sensitivities to those ingredients, with sweet potato, peas, and tapioca providing the carbohydrate energy in a readily digestible format.

  • Green-lipped mussel at 0.25g/kg for joints:Green-lipped mussel at 0.25g/kg works alongside glucosamine at 400mg/kg and chondroitin sulphate at 300mg/kg to support cartilage health and joint mobility, making this recipe a practical daily food for active, working, or older dogs.

  • Salmon hydrolysate and salmon oil:Salmon hydrolysate at 5% enhances palatability and provides an additional bioavailable protein source, while salmon oil at 2% delivers omega-3 fatty acids that support skin condition, coat quality, and inflammatory balance.

Key benefits for your Dog

  • 25% crude protein from two novel sources:At 25% crude protein drawn from venison and trout, this recipe delivers the amino acid profile required for muscle maintenance and repair from protein sources that are genuinely uncommon in dry dog food, supporting dogs that do better on novel meats.

  • High calcium at 2.3% for bone health:With calcium at 2.3% and phosphorus at 1.3%, this recipe has one of the higher mineral contents in the Wilsons premium range, supporting strong bones and teeth alongside the joint-support compounds already present in the formula.

  • Omega-3 support from fish and oil:Salmon oil and salmon hydrolysate together deliver a meaningful omega-3 contribution that supports skin barrier function, coat condition, and anti-inflammatory responses, which is particularly relevant for dogs with ongoing skin sensitivity.

  • Botanical and prebiotic blend:Postbiotic yeast at 500mg/kg, MOS at 500mg/kg, chicory, and inulin support digestive health alongside kale, seaweed, cranberry, ginger, turmeric, thyme, and dandelion root, which provide antioxidant and immune support within every daily serving.

How to Transition to Cold Pressed

Switching your dog’s diet gradually helps prevent digestive upset. Follow this 7-day plan:

Days 1–3:
Introduce cold pressed as a treat, gradually increasing the amount (no more than 25% of their daily intake). If your dog is on a strict diet, slightly reduce their old food to balance calories.

Days 4–6:
Replace their breakfast with cold pressed (half their daily portion), while still feeding their old food for dinner.

Day 7-9:
Feed 75% of daily intake as cold pressed, make up the rest with their old food.

Day 9+:
Fully transition to 100% cold pressed.

For dogs with sensitive stomachs, extend each phase by 2–3 days for a gentler adjustment.
