BRITISH LAMB AND RICE, GENTLY PRESSED FOR SENSITIVE DOGS

When the requirement is a wheat-free food with a single red meat protein and a gentler carbohydrate base, lamb with rice is a combination that has stood the test of time for dogs with digestive sensitivity. Wilsons Premium Cold Pressed Lamb is built on dried ground lamb at 26% and rice at 21%, with rice protein at 7% and lamb hydrolysate at 5%, cold pressed at low temperature with selenium yeast, taurine, kale, and a full prebiotic and postbiotic stack to deliver 25% crude protein in a wheat-free, chicken-free recipe. The recipe contains rice and is therefore wheat free rather than grain free, making it the right choice for dogs who require wheat exclusion without needing to remove all grains from the diet.

Why it's a great choice

  • Wheat free, not grain free:This recipe contains rice at 21% and rice protein at 7%, making it wheat free rather than grain free. This is an important distinction for dogs who are wheat intolerant but can tolerate other grains, and for owners who want to exclude wheat without eliminating all carbohydrate grains.

  • Dried ground lamb at 26% with hydrolysate:Dried ground lamb leads the recipe at 26% and is supported by lamb hydrolysate at 5%, providing additional palatability and bioavailable peptides alongside the muscle meat, creating a lamb-based recipe with genuine depth.

  • Selenium yeast for thyroid and antioxidant support:Selenium yeast is an organic form of selenium that is more bioavailable than inorganic selenite, supporting thyroid function, antioxidant defence, and immune health, and is a notable functional addition in a recipe of this type.

  • Chicken free single red meat protein:All protein in this recipe is sourced from lamb, with no chicken or chicken derivatives included, making it a reliable option for dogs with confirmed chicken sensitivity who need a clean single-protein food.

Key benefits for your Dog

  • 25% crude protein for muscle maintenance:At 25% crude protein sourced from lamb and rice protein, this recipe meets the daily amino acid requirement for adult dogs, with the red meat origin contributing iron and zinc in forms that are highly bioavailable compared to plant-based sources.

  • Rice for digestive comfort: Rice at 21% provides a readily digestible, low-fibre carbohydrate that is well tolerated by the majority of dogs, including those with sensitive digestive systems or those transitioning from a bland diet following a digestive episode.

  • Glucosamine and chondroitin for joint health:Glucosamine at 400mg/kg and chondroitin sulphate at 300mg/kg are included daily to support cartilage integrity and joint mobility, alongside taurine and carnitine at 50mg/kg for cardiac and metabolic support.

  • Taurine and selenium for heart and immunity:Taurine supports cardiac muscle function and visual health, while selenium yeast provides antioxidant protection and thyroid support, making this recipe appropriate for dogs with additional cardiac or immune health considerations alongside a wheat-free dietary requirement.

How to Transition to Cold Pressed

Switching your dog’s diet gradually helps prevent digestive upset. Follow this 7-day plan:

Days 1–3:
Introduce cold pressed as a treat, gradually increasing the amount (no more than 25% of their daily intake). If your dog is on a strict diet, slightly reduce their old food to balance calories.

Days 4–6:
Replace their breakfast with cold pressed (half their daily portion), while still feeding their old food for dinner.

Day 7-9:
Feed 75% of daily intake as cold pressed, make up the rest with their old food.

Day 9+:
Fully transition to 100% cold pressed.

For dogs with sensitive stomachs, extend each phase by 2–3 days for a gentler adjustment.
